Mike Savage passed away at 42

Mike Savage, a former player and assistant coach with the OHL's Sudbury Wolves, has passed away Dec. 19 at the age of 42. Savage played for the Wolves from 1980 to 1984, registering 25 points and 111 penalty minutes in 98 games.

Mike Savage, a former player and assistant coach with the OHL's Sudbury Wolves, has passed away Dec. 19 at the age of 42.

Savage played for the Wolves from 1980 to 1984, registering 25 points and 111 penalty minutes in 98 games.  Savage was drafted to the NHL by the Winnipeg Jets and also served as Wolves' assistant coach during the 1996-97 season. His brother is former NHL player Brian Savage.

The Sudbury Wolves issued a press release saying, "Mike was a very well-liked individual and will be deeply missed by all in the Wolves' organization that knew him. The Wolves extend their sincere condolences to the Savage family."

A moment of silence will be held in Savage's memory at the next Wolves' home game Friday, Dec. 29 versus the Owen Sound Attack. Game time is 7:30 pm.
