The 2008 NOSSA senior and junior boys' AAA basketball championship was contested in Greater Sudbury this past weekend and it left a bad taste in the mouths of locals.

The event was hosted by Lasalle Secondary School.

On Friday, three of four local teams gunning for a title were gunned down themselves by visiting squads.

In junior action, Korah from Sault Ste. Marie Central dumped Lasalle 47-44 while West Ferris from North Bay turned back Lockerby 47-41.

In the senior division, Lockerby fell 61-30 to St. Basil from Sault Ste. Marie while Lasalle managed to escape the drudges thanks to a 70-48 win over St. Joseph's Scollard Hall from North Bay.

The basketball gods didn't give Lasalle any favours on this day. The team missed shots, stumbled at the free throw line and were dominated in the rebounding category. The St. basil players didn't encounter this frustration as they hit shots and took control of the boards.

It all added up to a tough 65-59 loss for Lasalle.

The loss ended any hopes of Lasalle going to OFSAA.
