The Sudbury Novice B Lady Wolves could not have asked for a much better start to the 2012-2013 season.
With half the campaign under their collective belts, the young ladies have yet to taste defeat, capturing gold at four straight tournaments.
Their latest success came in Whitby over the weekend as the locals emerged at the top of a four-team heap in the Tournament of Heroes.
Sudbury received two goals each from Alexie Olivier and Meghan Papineau, skating past the Kingston Ice Wolves 5-1 in their opening game on Dec. 21. Sabrina Crossthwaite rounded out the scoring for the Northern Ontario-based Wolves.
Goaltender Jessica Ouimet recorded the first of her two shutouts and Mackenzie Selk enjoyed a two-goal outing as the Lady Wolves improved to 2-0 with a 4-0 whitewash of the Whitby Wolves. Sophie Bensley and Olivier also found the back of the net for head coach Scott Fahey and company.
Olivier was the story in Game 3, scoring all three goals as Sudbury slipped past the Oshawa Lady Generals 3-1 in the final preliminary round game, with the same two teams slated to meet again in the final.
A little less offence in the championship affair as a first-period marker from Kianna D'Attilio proved to be the only goal of the game, with Ouimet backstopping the local crew to a 1-0 win and another tournament banner, joining those already garnered in Oakville, Etobicoke and Barrie.
The 2012-2013 Sudbury Novice B Lady Wolves roster includes Sophie Bensley, Kaiden MacLean, Danika Lalonde, Bianca Vigna, Pascale Tremblay, Kianna D'Attilio, Alison Symington, Alexie Olivier, Amanda Symington, Mackenzie Selk, Kirstin Fahey, Sabrina Crossthwaite, Mikayla Papineau, Meghan Papineau, Aoife Mahaffy and Jessica Ouimet.
In addition to head coach Scott Fahey, the balance of the staff features assistants Don Tremblay, Dallas D'Attilio and Ian Symington, trainers Lynne and Dan Lalonde and team manager Wendy Papineau.
