The Rayside Balfour Avalanche hockey team recently attended the Domtar Wood Products Annual Tier 2 Hockey Tournament in Timmins, and left with the Novice Pine Division Championship.
The final was a hard-fought battle with the Sudbury Sharks that ended in a 4-3 victory for the Avalanche.  It was a satisfying win after losing to the Sharks 8-1 in round robin play.
Other round robin scores were 4-1 over the Copper Cliff Braves, 6-4 over the Moosonee Braves and 4-2 over the Timmins RMLG Pirates.
Hats off to the novice club for overcoming the adversity of a travel day blizzard and a bout of flu that swept through the team over the weekend.
