Seniors invited to sign up now for summer, winter games

If you are age 55 or older during the current year you are eligible to join and participate in the Sudbury Senior Games, both summer and winter. Separate committees are responsible for the winter and summer games.

District 3 encompasses the area west of Sudbury along Highway 17 to Webbwood, Massey, Spanish, to Espanola and all of Manitoulin. If you travel east, it extends along Highway 17 to Warren, St. Charles, Noelville.

When you go south, the area extends to Highway 69 to Alban and Monetville. The northern boundaries run along Highway 144 to Cartier and Gogama.

Sudbury traditionally acts as the central location for the games and includes the outlying areas of Azilda, Chelmsford, Onaping, Levack, Capreol, Hanmer, Valley East, and Nickel Centre and Markstay.

You do not have to be a member of any club to join the Senior Games.

Meetings are held the fourth Thursday of each month (except December) and organizers are presently meeting in the Older Adult Centre at 10:30 am until lunch or whatever time is required.

Registration starts March 29 with closing award presentations on June 3. Opening of the Senior Summer Games is April 29 and games are scheduled every day until closing on June 3, 2003.

Various games are held daily, either in the morning, the afternoon or all day. Calendar of events and locations, will be published when confirmed.

The committee is presently organizing places and events which consist of card games, cribbage, euchre (pepper), bridge, snooker, bowling (5 and 10 pin), singles and doubles, nine-ball pool, carpet Bowling, table shuffleboard, deck shuffleboard, darts, horseshoes, bocce, mini putt, menÂ?s and womenÂ?s golf, swimming and walking.

The next meeting is scheduled for Thursday, Nov. 27 when the elections for a committee will be held. Anyone interested is invited to attend.
