The Greater Sudbury Cubs Jr. A Hockey Club said it is proud to announce that six of their players will be attending OHL hockey try-out camps this week.

The Cubs said four of the players attending OHL camps are new Cubs players and prospects. This includes 16-year-old forward Nolan Newton and 17-year-old defenceman Matthew Mazzotta, who will be attending the Barrie Colts try-out camp.

Recently-signed 15-year-old forward Marshall McCharles will be attending the Sudbury Wolves camp, while 17-year-old goaltending prospect Nathanial Boyes will be attending the Ottawa 67’s camp.

Two returning Cubs players have also been invited to show their stuff. This includes 17-year-old forward Billy Biedermann, trying out for the Barrie Colts and 18-year-old forward Cameron Shanks, trying out for the London Knights.

This is good news, according to newly appointed Cubs General Manager Dave Clancy.

“The Greater Sudbury Cubs hockey club is extremely excited to have six of our young players attending OHL camps this week," Clancy said.

“These players have all worked extremely hard and are deserving of their invitation to their respective OHL try-out camps” Clancy added.

“We wish them all the very best of luck as they look to showcase their skills at four different OHL team camps this week.”

The 2022-23 version of the Greater Sudbury Cubs will be gathering for the first time this week in preparation for their home opener on Thursday, Sept. 8 at the Gerry McCrory Sports Complex when they host the Powassan Voodoos at 7:05 pm.

Tickets will go on sale starting this week for games in September including next Thursday and Friday’s double-header home opener as the Cubs will also host the Hearst Lumberjacks on Friday, Sept. 9 at 7:05 pm at the Gerry McCrory Countryside Sports Complex.
