The six athletes who competed at the recent
2005 Canada Summer Games in Regina, Sask., did Sudbury proud.
Representing a wide range of sports, the awesome six put forth
their best efforts and came away with an impressive medal
haul.
Valley East's Frank Louiseize was a double
winner in swimming, earning a gold medal in both the 100-metre
freestyle event and the 100-metre backstroke.
Lasalle Secondary School's ace basketball
player, Lisa Furchner helped Team Ontario win gold with an
exciting overtime victory against a pesky Alberta squad.

Former Lo-Ellen Park volleyball stand out,
Kristina Fabris ,helped Ontario blast its way to the gold medal
with a three-sets-to-one victory over Manitoba. Fabris was a
force in the championship game, registering 13 kills, 10 digs
and two blocks.
Chelmsford's Cale Predon was once again a
wrecking ball on the wrestling mat, winning a silver medal in
the over 105-kilogram, but not over 130-kilogram
division.
Predon's powerful skill was put to the test,
and he answered the challenge.
Another local wrestler, Lockerby's Jason
Cecchini also took a stab at a medal on the wrestling mats, but
came up just short. Cecchini, wrestling in the up to
105-kilogram division, one of the biggest classes at the games,
earned a respectable fourth after many hard-fought
matches.
Finally, transplanted Sudbury native Andrew
McMillan, who originally hails from North Bay, won a bronze
medal in the C2-200-metre canoe race.
McMillan utilized his perfect stroke to help
him and his teammate, Jonathan Blackadar, win the bronze.
The performances of these Sudbury athletes
helped Team Ontario win the Canada Games Flag, which is awarded
to the province or territory that
collects the most points during the two-week
event.
More than 4,500 elite athletes from across
Canada participated in Regina.
