Team Jakubo, representing the Copper Cliff Curling Club, will be competing in the Tim Hortons Brier in Calgary Mar. 7-15.

The team, made up of Mike Jakubo, Matt Seabrook, Luc Ouimet, Lee Toner, Scott Seabrook and coach Bruce Melville, is in its first year together.

"It has been a long year of practicing and bonspieling everywhere from Ottawa to St. Thomas and all over Northern Ontario. We have worked hard and put in a lot of time which makes this trip to the Brier very satisfying. Especially this year with such a great field full of six past Canadian champions and an Olympic gold medalist," said Jakubo.

"And although we are not a favourite to win, our goal going in will be to play the best we can in every game. Curling is an amazing game that way, because any team can win on any given day."

Jakubo and a few team members competed in the Brier in 2005. He said he knows the distractions the Brier brings - 15,000 fans in the stands, media demands and time pressures.

He said the team is more prepared this time.

"We are very much looking forward to getting to Calgary on Thursday and curling against the best teams this country has to offer. We would like to thank all our supporters in the Sudbury curling community and especially our members at the Copper Cliff Curling Club for all their support."

The Brier will be televised on TSN starting Saturday, Mar. 7 with morning, afternoon and evenings draws covered daily.
