Former Windsor player Ja'Myrin Jackson did more than hold his own against his former teammates, he earned 28 points in the Sudbury Five's 115-108 win over the Windsor Express on March 22.

The Sudbury Five bounced back from a loss on Saturday to defeat the visiting Windsor Express 115-108 on Sunday.

Both the Express and the Five came out with their offensive games running on all cylinders to start the game, and after the first quarter, the Five held a slim 34-31 lead, thanks in part to contributions from Ja’Myrin Jackson, who was facing his former team, and scored 28 points in the game for the Five.

Windsor was able to keep the game close in the second quarter and thanks to gains from players such as Calvin Blaydes with 18 points, the Express only trailed Sudbury by a score of 58-53 at halftime.

The Five were able to widen their lead a little bit in the third quarter, scoring 33 points to the Express’ 29, good enough to hold a nine-point lead over Windsor, 91-82, with one quarter remaining in the game.

The fourth quarter was more of a defensive battle with both teams scoring under 30 points. Contributions from AJ Mosby Jr. with 27 points in the game, and Canadian product Duane Notice, with 18 points in the game, helped the Sudbury Five secure a 115-108 victory.

With the win, the Sudbury Five now hold a record of 12 wins and 10 losses on the season.

When asked how the game plan changes when the team builds a lead, Sudbury Five Head Coach and General Manager Logan Stutz said, “It gives you a little bit of security, but you don’t want to have a false sense of security.”

Stutz also said, when asked if bigger leads allow for more creativity on offense, “It’s a slight margin of error, but you don’t want to count on that, you wanna keep going.”

When asked if the Five leans on him a little bit more when playing against his former teammates in Windsor, Ja’Myrin Jackson said, “I wouldn’t say it’s a bigger role for me, but there’s definitely like a defensive assignment for me to take over because I was in that system. I potentially know what the guys like to do, what they don’t like to do.”

The Sudbury Five have almost a week off before taking the court next at home against the Lebanon Leprechauns of The Basketball League, with a scheduled start time of 7 p.m.
