The Sudbury Gladiators kick off their 2008 Canadian Junior Football League home schedule this Saturday with a tilt against Burlington at Queen's Athletic Field. Game time is 4 p.m.

Head coach Frank Rocca kept it short and sweet when it came to what his squad was going to have to do to earn their first win of the season after starting 0-2.

"The plan is to find a way to get a win against the apparently best team in the league," he said. "We are capable, as anyone can tell from the last two games we have played, but we need to be able to put it all together. The keys are to limit mistakes and turnovers, be able to get the home crowd behind our boys. It will be a battle. The Gladiators have battled in both games so far but need a win - nothing else really matters."

The Gladiators exist to help young players in Greater Sudbury gain an edge for the high school season, and, down the road, a potential college or university career.

"The bottom line is the kids play with the best football players in our city, against the best football players from other nearby cities," Rocca said. "This will prepare them for the high school season, get them seen by college coaches and prepare them for university football."
