Sudbury's Tessa Bonhomme has been named as one of 23 members of Canada's National Women's Hockey Team.

It was announced Thursday Bonhomme, 21, will make her debut at the women's world hockey championships in Winnipeg April 3-10.

National team coach Melody Davidson announced her roster as Canada opens the tournament against Switzerland and will attempt to reclaim the world title it lost to the United States two years ago.

Bonhomme, who was named as one of 10 finalists for the top female hockey player in women's collegiate hockey in the United States a few days ago, plays for Ohio State.

She has represented Team Canada at the Four Nations Cup, but never at a world championship or Olympic Games before.

The team includes 17 players from the team that won the Olympic gold medal last year in Turin, Italy.

Defenceman Becky Kellar took the season off to have her second child, which opened a spot on defence, which Davidson and her staff decided should go to Bonhomme.

Team Canada will have a training camp in Dauphin, Man. starting March 25 and will play an exhibition game against Finland in Selkirt on March 31.
