Three Sudbury athletes headed to national karate championships

Benoit's Martial Arts will be sending three of their athletes to t he Karate Canada National Championships in Richmond, BC, from Jan. 29-31. All three athletes have earned a spot on Team Ontario.

Benoit's Martial Arts will be sending three of their athletes to the Karate Canada National Championships in Richmond, BC, from Jan. 29-31.


All three athletes have earned a spot on Team Ontario. Bradley Chaput 15, Marissa Meandro 14 and Ethan Bubba 13 will be competing at this event next week.

Bradley ( silver medalist in his division last year) will be competing in 14-15 and 16-17 boys kata divisions.

Marissa (gold medalist in her division last year) will compete in 14-15 girls kata division. Ethan (his first time at this national event) will compete in 12-13 boys kata division.

To earn a spot the athletes attend three provincial tournaments and are awarded points according to placement. Bradley finished second in 14-15 and first in 16-17.

Marissa second in 14-15 and third 16-17, and Ethan finished second in 12-13. They are the only athletes from Sudbury attending as well.
