The Laurentian Lady Vees indoor track team took part in the OUA championships this past weekend at York University.

The highlight of the meet was Madeleine Woods' run in the 600 metres, as she finished just half a second out of a medal.

The Lady Vees had four athletes competing in a total of three events during the competition. Woods (Sudbury, Ont.) finished in sixth place in the 600-metres in a season's best time of 1:34.76.

Woods was only 0.59 seconds out of the medals as she found herself boxed in amongst other runners with 60 metres to go and unable to find open running room. Woods is currently on the bubble for the CIS championships and is waiting on results from the AUS championships to see if she has qualified.

"I felt great and had lots left at the end for the kick, but I just couldn't find any open space," Woods said.

Maggie Robins (Port Perry, Ont.) was making her first appearance at the OUA championships in the 1,000-metres. Robins finished the race in 17th place in a time of 3:09.80.

Two rookies, Emma Tallman (Mindemoya, Ont.) and Gracie Tetzlaff (Trenton, Ont.), also making their first appearances rounded out the roster for the Lady Vees and competed in the 1,500-metres. Tallman finished in 15th place in a time of 4:54.57 while Tetzlaff finished right behind her in 16th in a time of 4:59.47.

The Lady Vees wrapped up their OUA indoor track season this past weekend at the OUA championships. The Lady Vees had four athletes competing at the two-day meet than ran from Friday, February 27 to Saturday, February 28 at York University in Toronto.

For most of the team it is now the off season, but Woods is on the bubble for a spot in the CIS championships taking place in two weeks in Windsor.
