The Sudbury Wolves began their three in three eastern road swing on Friday night in Kingston with a matchup against the Frontenacs. Despite solid goaltending, the Wolves were unable to secure the victory, losing to the Frontenacs by a final score of 4-1.
It was the Frontenacs who were the first to get on the board midway through the opening frame on a goal by Nathan Moon. Near the end of the first period, the Frontenacs opened a two goal lead with a goal by Kelly Geoffrey, who scored on the breakaway. The Wolves responded and cut the lead in half with a power play marker by Eric O'Dell with assists from John Kurtz and Tyler Sheldrake. The Frontenacs took the 2-1 lead into the first intermission.
The teams played a tight middle frame and it wasn't until late in the third period that the Frontenacs increased their lead by two goals with a marker from Andris Dzerins at the 17:40 mark. The Frontenacs added a short-handed goal into the empty net just over one minute later to win the game by a final score of 4-1.
Sudbury Wolves netminder Alain Valiquette had a solid outing
in goal making 39 saves for the loss with Frontenacs goaltender
Mavric Parks made 33 saves for the win.
The Wolves will have to regroup as they head to game two of the
weekend in Belleville on tonight for a contest against the
Eastern Conference leadings Belleville Bulls. Game time is 7:15
p.m.
