The Sudbury Wolves got a much-improved defensive and goaltending effort on the road on Saturday night against Barrie Colts in a 6-1 victory.

Nate Krawchuk got his first start in goal for the Wolves since Jan. 10, while the Barrie Colts went with Ben West in net.

It didn’t take long for the Wolves to strike, as Landon McCallum scored his 20th goal of the season, this one on the power play, 3:31 into the first period, giving the Wolves an early 1-0 lead.

Despite the Wolves getting 15 shots in the period to Barrie’s 10, the score remained 1-0 after the first period of the game.

Quentin Musty scored his 36th goal of the season just over one minute into the second period, also on the power play, to give Sudbury a 2-0 lead.

The Colts would cut the lead in half 7:27 into the second period with a goal from Carter Lowe, his fourth goal of the season, to make the score 2-1 for Sudbury.

With 4:52 remaining in the second, Musty scored his second goal of the game, which also was a power play marker, putting Sudbury back up by two, 3-1.

Under 30 seconds later, Andre Anania scored his 10th goal of the season to put the Wolves firmly in control by a score of 4-1 with one period remaining in the game.

The third period proved to be a quiet one until Dalibor Dvorsky scored a short handed goal on an empty net, his 40th goal of the season, to give the Wolves a 5-1 lead.

David Goyette would add one more goal for the Wolves, his 37th goal of the season, with just 23 seconds to go, sealing a 6-1 win for the Sudbury Wolves over the Barrie Colts.

With the win, the Sudbury Wolves now hold a record of 36 wins, 21 regulation losses, four overtime losses, and three shootout losses on the season, good for third place in the Central Division, fifth place in the Eastern Conference, and ninth place overall in the Ontario Hockey League with four games remaining in the regular season.

The Sudbury Wolves travel to Owen Sound on St. Patrick’s Day for a game against the Owen Sound Attack with a start time of 2 p.m. before a rematch against the Barrie Colts on Friday, March 22, at 7:05 p.m., which will be their final home game of the regular season.
