The Sudbury Wolves were at home on Friday night to take on the Sarnia Sting.

Marcus Vandenberg got the start in goal for the Wolves, while the Sting went with Karsen Chartier as their starting goaltender.

It was all Wolves from the first puck drop until the final buzzer.

Just over three minutes into the game, Andre Anania scored his sixth goal of the season unassisted to give the Wolves an early 1-0 lead.

Forty-one seconds later, Kocha Delic gave Sudbury some insurance with his 22nd goal of the season to make the score 2-0 for the Wolves.

With 6:43 to go in the first, Nathan Villeneuve scored his 23rd goal of the season giving Sudbury a commanding 3-0 lead.

With 3:02 remaining in the opening period Sarnia finally scored their first goal of the game with Carter Kostuch’s eighth goal of the season, and after the first period of play the Wolves held a 3-1 lead.

Sarnia closed the gap to just one goal with Kostuch’s second goal of the game, making the score 3-2 for the Wolves 3:47 into the second period.

At the 13:36 mark of the second period, Quentin Musty was hooked while on a breakaway, resulting in a penalty shot, which Musty scored on, making the score 4-2 for Sudbury.

Eighteen seconds later, Delic scored his second goal of the game, making the score 5-2 for the hometown Wolves.

The Wolves potent scoring continued just 30 seconds later with Landon McCallum’s 18th goal of the season, giving Sudbury a 6-2 lead over Sarnia.

With 1:15 remaining in the second period, Dalibor Dvorsky scored his 33rd goal of the season to make the score 7-2 for the Wolves with one period remaining in the game.

5:19 into the third period, Musty scored his second goal of the game, and his 30th of the season, to put the Wolves firmly in control by a score of 8-2.

Exactly one minute later, Matthew Mania scored his fourth goal of the season making the score 9-2 for the Wolves.

The Musty show continued at the 12:05 mark of the period, when he scored his hat trick goal, giving the Sudbury Wolves a 10-2 lead.

At the 13:26 mark of the third period, Zach Filak scored his 20th goal of the season for the Sting, to make the score 10-3 for Sudbury, but it wasn’t nearly enough, as the Wolves would defeat the Sarnia Sting by a score of 10-3.

In addition to his hat trick, Quentin Musty got two assists in the game, for a total of five points, which earned him First-Star honours.

With the victory, the Sudbury Wolves now hold a record of 34 wins, 18 losses, three overtime losses and three shootout losses on the season. They’re good for first place in the Central Division, tied for first place with the Brantford Bulldogs in the Eastern Conference, and tied for fifth place in the Ontario Hockey League, also with the Brantford Bulldogs.

The Sudbury Wolves won’t have to wait long until their next game, as the Pack takes on the Oshawa Generals at the Sudbury Community Arena on Saturday, March 2, with puck drop scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
