In a season where the losses outnumber the victories, it's always a little nicer when the closing note is a positive one.

The Sudbury Novice Rockhounds posted an 0-3 record at the recent OLA (Ontario Lacrosse Association) Festival Provincials in Whitby, with the coaching staff focusing on the third and final defeat for a team that did not play a ton of tournaments this summer.

A pair of tough losses would give to a year-ending 5-3 setback at the hands of the Cambridge Chiefs, as Daniel Crossthwaite, with two, and Kai D'Amour scored for Sudbury.

"Our team actually celebrated the loss," said head coach Brendan (B.J.) Adair. "There was lots of growth and development this year, and the kids played their hearts out in that last game."

The Rockhounds opened the weekend, falling 8-3 to the Arthur Aces, with Crossthwaite drilling home the hat trick. The Nepean Knights buried the locals 13-3 in game two, as Caleb Mead and Sam Walsh joined Crossthwaite on the scoresheet.

The 2017 Novice Rockhounds roster featured Keegan Adair, Hudson Bown-Downie, Max McGregor, Daniel Crossthwaite, Caleb Mead, Jackson Mead, Allaura Peltier-Restoule, Carter Roney, Sam Walsh, Kai D'Amour, Xavier Esquimaux-Osawamick, Brayden Gerrior, and coaches B.J. Adair, Dan Mead and Brad Roney.
