On Jan. 26, 2023, ten exemplary employers or individuals were recognized at the 2022 Stellar Awards.

Recipients were selected by each member organization of the Education Coordinating Team (ECT), comprised of all four area school boards, both colleges, the university and several other training programs and an Indigenous training institute.

Workforce Planning for Sudbury & Manitoulin chairs the ECT, which focuses on Work Integrated Learning and promotes school-work initiatives and supports projects that bridge the transition from education/training to employment.

Held every two years, the Stellar Awards is proud to applaud exceptional employers and individuals who provide exemplary learning experiences in the workplace through apprenticeships, co-ops, internships, specialized training or other work-integrated learning opportunities.

The hands-on learning experiences they provide are invaluable for helping students stand out and employers find the skilled workers they need.

Executive Director, Workforce Planning for Sudbury & Manitoulin Reggie Caverson says, “It is important to acknowledge that this year’s, and past year’s, recipients and many other employers in our community who provide experiential learning opportunities all deserve to be recognized. Each one paves the way for the development and growth of our current and future workforce which helps drive our economy.”

She adds, “They are trailblazers who not only run their business but see the value of mentoring, as well as sharing their expertise, knowledge and time. Many go on to hire those they have trained. All of this can’t happen without their commitment to the development of our workforce.”
