According to the spokesperson, “The Clinical Dental Assistant will report to the Program Manager. The successful applicant will perform a number of duties throughout the day, including collecting patient information, preparing and maintaining dental instruments and equipment, assisting dentists in patient care, and preparing dental materials. The clinic dental assistant will also support reception services and the sterilization centre in accordance with the Ontario Public Health Standards under the HPPA and in accordance with agency policy.”

The position comes with a competitive salary of $28.60 - $33.02 per hour (as per the CUPE Collective agreement), a comprehensive benefits plan, OMERS Pension Plan, and competitive vacation and sick time.

Public Health Sudbury and Districts is looking for someone who is a Certified Level II Dental assistant (HARP certified), with a minimum two years experience in clinical practice, with current Standard First Aid CPR/AED Level C, and basic skills in Microsoft Office. Proficiency in both official languages would be considered an asset.

The successful candidate should be willing to occasionally travel out of town and have a driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle. Experience in public health is a plus, and the candidate needs to be a graduate from an accredited dental assisting program.

There are a number of responsibilities in this position, including:

  • assisting the dentist during a variety of treatment procedures;
  • taking and developing dental radiographs;
  • working with, educating, and helping patients during and after procedures;
  • and data entry using the OHISS or another Ministry approved data base and agency patient management system.

Some office management tasks will also be required.

In addition, the Ministry of Labour “Worker Health and Safety Awareness in 4 Steps” training certificate is a requirement for this fantastic opportunity.
