Every year NISA/Northern Initiative for Social Action, partnered with the Mood Disorders Society of Canada, runs a fundraiser called Sudbury Defeat Depression. This year, they are fundraising with four awesome events throughout the month of May.

"We are incredibly excited to be holding the 11th Sudbury Defeat Depression fundraiser, with prizes and fun at every single one of our events! Sudbury businesses have been extremely generous with their support and we are thrilled to be able to share that generosity with all of the participants at our events, through prizes and give aways," said NISA's Executive Assistant and Communications Officer Victor Dryland.

May 9th from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m., there is a fundraising dinner at Boston Pizza. 10% of every order will go to NISA to help Defeat Depression. At 6:30 p.m., get ready to test your trivia skills with a terrific trivia night for only $20.

May 18th, come on out to the Trevi Bar and Grill for Sudbury’s favourite game, Porketta Bingo, for just $30! The fun gets underway at 2 p.m.

May 23rd, NISA hosts a Gala and Silent Auction at the Thorneloe University Theatre. The evening will start at 6:30 p.m. and will include a silent auction with a variety of items to bid on. "I don't want to say too much, but so many incredible local artists and authors have donated their work. This will be the perfect night for anyone who loves the arts!" said Dryland. "But I don't want to sell the auction short, I am positive everyone will find something that connects with them at our auction." Additionally, lively entertainment, part of which features local comedian Robert Simoneau, will make this a night to remember, which everyone can attend for just $20.

To cap off Sudbury Defeat Depression, Dryland is encouraging everyone to come out to the 11th Annual Defeat Depression Walk/Run at 9:30 a.m. on May 25th at the Grace Hartman Amphitheatre. “And I really mean, everyone,” emphasized Dryland. Sudbury Defeat Depression has walk and run routes for all ages and abilities at 2, 4 and 10 kms, as well as adaptive yoga for those who would still like to participate but may not be able to take part in the walk/run.

Information booths from local community partners will also be lining the grounds. "We believe that it is important to spread the word about organizations that actively work to support the community," Dryland explained enthusiastically. "This event is open to anyone who wants to come out and be in a mental-illness-positive environment.”

“The Mayor will be issuing a proclamation, there will be a couple of speeches, and food and snacks available as well,” added Dryland. “We are looking for lots of support for our fundraising initiatives this month.” He paused, then continued. “Sudbury Defeat Depression is integral to ensuring the continuation of vital mental health services within the Sudbury community, run through NISA. We need your help to continue these important initiatives!"
