In celebration of the grand opening of Pizzeria Roma’s second location in Sudbury’s south end, during the month of April, $2.00 from every pizza sold at both locations will go to Miners for Cancer.

Miners for Cancer is a non-profit registered charity that was launched in 1996, when best friends and Vale mine foremen, Allan Epps and Wayne Tonelli, decided to organize baseball and hockey games as a way for Vale employees to socialize outside of the workplace.

This endeavour evolved into leagues where participants had to pay a small fee, to which the extra funds were then donated to cancer research, equipment, and patient care in Northern Ontario.

Roberto Ferrucci, owner of Pizzeria Roma said the Sudbury community is the reason his pizzeria is such a success, and it’s important that he and his team to give back to the community that continues to support them.

He said, the reason he chose using the grand opening of his second location to support Miners for Cancer is because he’s a long-time supporter of the organization, and knows firsthand that they work tirelessly to raise money for cancer research, a disease that has impacted all of our lives.

“I’ve known many people who have had cancer and seen the devastating impact it can have in people’s lives, so important to keep raising money for cancer, and I know that 100% of your donations stay here in Sudbury to help fund cancer research,” Ferrucci said.

The grand opening celebration for the new Paris Street location kicks off on April 1st, with events happening throughout the entire month. Events include raffles with prizes, which includes an authentic pizza oven donated by Bianco’s, a cord of wood donated by Buckin Firewood, as well as prizes from Wats Supplies, and Harvest King Food Services.

Ferrucci said, he opened the second location due to popular demand, and to accommodate those who live in the south end who love his award-winning, traditional-style Italian pizzas.

While the location is new, the menu remains the same, in addition to their new Grab and Go dishes that include cheese and spinach cannelloni, cheese tortellini, lasagna al forno, gnocchi chicken rosé, vegan pumpkin ravioli, one-pound soups, and marinara sauces.

Their Pizzeria Roma event trailer will also be a part of the grand opening, and is also available for any special occasions such as weddings, birthday parties and anniversaries. The Pizzeria Roma team can cater food for 20 to 200 people, and Ferrucci said they’re happy to help take care of the food at your special event, with pizza, pastas, risotto and arancini, as well as a variety of meat dishes.
