Maximizing the lifespan and value of your vehicle requires more than just regular preventative maintenance of its mechanical systems.

It is also important to maintain the cleanliness of your vehicle both inside and out. This is as vital to the health of your vehicle as it is to the people riding inside of it.

In the winter when drivers tend to keep windows rolled up, the degree of cleanliness inside your vehicle has a direct impact on the air quality circulating inside your cabin. Soiled seats and carpets, roof liners saturated with cigarette smoke, or dirty, dusty interiors can have a negative impact on children, seniors, COPD sufferers or anyone with compromised breathing. Bringing your car into an auto detailing company for a professional detailing is a good way to restore the cleanliness of your vehicle inside and out.

“This is especially true if you’re a smoker,” said Mike Boyle of Rim 2 Trim Auto Detailing, Sudbury’s award-winning family-owned and operated detailing business. “If you’re not putting your windows down, when you do get inside people don’t realize how much grime is on the windshield or in the roof liner. With a full detailing we do everything from floor to ceiling. People are always very pleased with the results.”

Before booking your appointment with Rim 2 Trim, it’s important to understand the difference between a typical car cleaning and a comprehensive detailing service.

“A car cleaning is a light cleaning of your vehicle, vacuuming, wiping down surfaces, basically taking the dust off,” explained Boyle. “Car detailing is a thorough cleaning and restoration of both the interior and exterior of the vehicle making it look like new. That includes shampooing carpets and seats, or giving leather seats a treatment to help maintain the leather. The dash gets wiped down and treated with UV protection. It’s a very thorough cleaning.”

According to Boyle, a thorough first-time auto detailing service could take from two to three hours depending on the condition of the vehicle. At Rim 2 Trim, clients have their choice of having carpets and seats steam cleaned or shampooed. Steam cleaning helps to kill all bacteria in fabrics and on surfaces while drying in a shorter time; some clients prefer traditional shampoo service. Either way, customers can request non-toxic and non-scented cleaners so there is no residual scent remaining after a full detail service.

“We do have special environmentally-friendly products for people who are allergic to certain scents,” said Boyle. “Some of our older customers who come in for detailing service often request non-scented shampoos for carpets and seats. We can definitely provide a custom service when needed.”

Boyle recommends that vehicle owners book a full detailing service twice a year.

“Customers who are very particular about maintaining their vehicles usually come to see us in the spring and then just before winter for a complete inside/outside detailing service,” said Boyle.

Booking an appointment with Rim 2 Trim Auto Detailing is also a great idea for anyone looking to see their vehicle or who might be returning a leased vehicle.

“We have clients come in who are selling their vehicles. They’ll get a total inside/outside detailing done. You might about $250 on the full service, but if you get that done you can probably add $1,500 to $2,000 to the sale price.

When it comes to pricing, Rim 2 Trim Auto Detailing offers a set price regardless of the extent of cleaning required. While other competitors may charge based on the job, Boyle said Rim 2 Trim Auto Detailing customers know the price prior to booking so there are no surprises once the job is completed.
