The COVID-19 pandemic forced the Allstate Agency in Sudbury to not only adapt to supporting its customers through phone and email, but it also meant changing the way the entire staff goes about working with important charities and non-profit organizations in the community.

While they weren’t able to physically get out and get involved as they had in previous years, the team at the Sudbury agency recognized that many local groups were in dire need of help. In 2020, the agency supported the NeoKids unit located at Health Sciences North as well as the Sudbury Food Bank. During the winter holiday season, the agency’s staff also organized a Christmas card signing campaign for local members of the Canadian Armed Forces who were not able to spend the winter holidays with their families.

“The pandemic has affected so many of us, but we heard that it hit charities particularly hard,” said Gene Myles, Allstate Agency Manager in Sudbury. “As a team, we challenged ourselves to find ways to step-up our support of the important work local charities and non-profits do in Sudbury, but do it safely and remotely. We all feel it’s really important to support the community so we emerge stronger when the pandemic is over.”

Myles and the team are planning to continue their support of Allstate Canada’s partnership with the Shoebox Project for Women. In the past, their office served as a drop-off location for those looking to donate shoe boxes filled with essential items for women but, due to the pandemic, they transitioned to online donations last year. They’re also looking forward to continuing their ongoing relationship with the Sudbury Food Bank, supporting the NeoKids and the Cancer Unit at Health Sciences North, as well as the walk for Multiple Sclerosis research and treatment.

For customers in Sudbury, in order to continue efforts in limiting the spread of COVID-19 in the community, all agents at the Allstate Sudbury agency are supporting customers primarily through phone and email. For those that need to meet in-person, the agency is booking appointments in advance.
