Gus’ Restaurant has an almost 72-year history of excellent and delicious homemade food in Sudbury.
“We make everything from scratch, the food is all homemade,” explained Fania Bountouri-Koutroumanos, who, along with her husband Spyros Koutroumanos, has owned Gus’ Restaurant for the last eight years. “We are inspired by our Greek heritage, by the long and proud tradition of this restaurant, and by classic Canadian dishes as well,” she added.
Gus’ Restaurant is one of the oldest restaurants in Sudbury. It was started by the late Kostantinos (Gus) Lagges, who wanted to provide great food at a reasonable price, coupled with friendly service and a family atmosphere. Almost seventy-two years later, the atmosphere and intent remain the same.
“We want to thank the Sudbury community for their support during Covid,” said Fania. “We are thankful that is behind us now.”
Fania and Spyros have expanded their catering options over the last several years and are offering catering both on and off-site as well as a full menu of lunch and dinner items and specials.
“We offer catering for Christmas parties, for workplace parties or events, family Christmas or other get-togethers, whatever the community is looking for,” said Fania. “We can host your holiday event here, or bring the food to you, wherever you are celebrating. We have lots of options for everyone to enjoy, and yes, it’s all homemade and delicious, we promise!”
In the restaurant, there is a full menu of both Canadian and Greek cuisine, perfect for all ages. “We post our specials on our Facebook page every day,” promised Fania. Specials range from fish and chips, to lasagna, to souvlaki with roasted potatoes, to moussaka, and more. There is delicious spanakopita and a homemade burger you have to taste to believe. “There really is something for everyone,” Fania said.
