The summer camp program at Laurentian University offers a dynamic and engaging learning environment outside of a traditional classroom setting.

The core camp programs are opportunities to gain knowledge and hands-on experience that can have a lasting impact on a child’s educational journey. From exploring nature to exploring the connection between northern Ontario mines and southern Ontario’s high-tech auto industry, there is something to interest everyone.

Voyageurs Basketball Camp

If your child loves basketball, Laurentian University Voyageurs basketball varsity coaches and student athletes guide young players ages 8 years and up, through drills, games, and exercises.

Campers receive appropriate instruction for their age and stage, whether they have just picked up a basketball or want to take the next big step toward their athletic scholarship dreams, the Voyageurs basketball camp helps foster an appreciation for the game. All skill levels are welcome. Sign up with a friend or come and make new friends.

Voyageur Summer Camps

The Voyageur Summer camp is for kids who love to be active. They can participate in soccer, basketball, badminton, volleyball, floor hockey, and more. There is the Tango Tower climbing challenge designed to build leadership and teamwork skills. There are watersports such as canoeing, kayaking, and standup paddleboarding, with older students given the opportunity to go on a full day canoe trip to Perch Lake.

Campers are encouraged to step out of their comfort zone and take on new challenges within Greater Sudbury’s beautiful natural surroundings. The Voyageur Day Camp is designed for ages 6 to 13.

Electrifying the Future

This week-long camp showcases post-secondary programs and careers in the automotive and manufacturing mobility industries. Nicole Tardif, Program Coordinator for the Goodman School of Mines says, “Electrifying the Future focuses on the link between mining and the electric vehicle industry. We want to show the connection from the earth to the automobile. Students will see firsthand how electric battery-operated mining vehicles are powered.”

Students will go on field trips and get hands-on experience with interactive projects. In partnership with Cambrian College and College Boreal, campers will build a solar powered electric vehicle, code robots, and play with simulators that move heavy equipment. Tardif says, “The camp will showcase the different programs at the post-secondary institutions and involve students in activities that mimic what they would be doing in a real-life career.” This program is open to students in grades 6 to 9.

McEwen Architecture “Archi-North” Summer Camp

The first time it’s ever been offered, the McEwen Architecture “Archi-North” camp gives students going into grades 11 and 12 the opportunity to learn about architectural design, drafting, drawing, modelmaking, and digital software. Camp coordinator Louis-Pierre Belec says, “It’s an introduction to the tools used in architecture and an introduction to looking at the world differently. Campers are encouraged to be agents of change in our world.”

The Archi-North program will be hosting campers from across Ontario, and as far north as James Bay. Belec adds. “We’re hoping the summer camp students acquire skills and tools that they can take back to their communities and start envisioning how they might be able to participate in the change they would like to see in their communities.” The Archi-North” program is so popular that the English language sessions are full. Spaces are available in the French language camp.

The summer programs at Laurentian University offer campers academic enrichment, intellectual growth, and experiential learning.

They can explore their passions and possibly their future career paths. To discover the many opportunities that Laurentian University has to offer visit them online.
