Getting outside and enjoying the outdoors is what Subaru Canada, Inc. is all about. The company encourages a healthy, active lifestyle and an adventurer’s mindset.

Visits by Canadians to national parks and historic sites are up almost 30%. Unfortunately, this increased traffic is having an adverse effect on these cherished places.

It serves as a reminder of why it’s so important be mindful of the impact our adventures have on our surroundings. We should all be taking care to enjoy the outdoors in a way that values and protects the environment.

Subaru Canada, Inc. has long believed in the conservation and responsible exploration of parks and natural habitats in Canada, and they are encouraging Canadians to take the Leave No Trace Canada pledge.

The Leave No Trace Canada pledge

For anyone who is venturing into the outdoors, if you do the following, you will leave behind a minimal impact on nature.

The seven principles of Leave No Trace include:

  1. Plan ahead and prepare.
  2. Travel and camp on durable surfaces.
  3. Dispose of waste properly.
  4. Leave what you find.
  5. Minimize campfire impacts.
  6. Respect wildlife.
  7. Be considerate of others.

(Please read the details of the seven principles of Leave No Trace in-depth here.)

These rules were originally developed for back country exploration, but they are now applied more widely, including remote wilderness areas, local parks and even urban backyards. In fact, they are suited for almost any outdoor recreational activity.

When you take the pledge to make responsible choices, Subaru Canada, Inc. will plant a tree in your name when you share your pledge on social media. To date, they have already planted 459 trees!

“This one, simple action to support responsible recreation in our parks and wilderness can help create a greener tomorrow,” says Lynn Renaud, General Sales Manager at Palladino Subaru.

Leave No Trace Canada is a non-profit organization that is dedicated to promoting outdoor ethics and the seven Leave No Trace principles. Their goal: to encourage Canadians to enjoy the benefits of the outdoors while protecting the country’s natural and cultural heritage.

Parks Canada

Parks Canada consists of over 200 national parks, national historic sites, national marine conservation areas and national urban parks across the country, with a mission that they should be enjoyed by all.

Subaru Canada, Inc. is also deeply committed to preserving and protecting Canadian parks and wilderness. The company has become the first corporate donor to Parks Canada’s Conservation and Restoration (CoRe) Program, contributing $100,000. CoRe projects take place throughout the national sites, parks and marine conservation areas administered by Parks Canada.

The scope can vary widely from project to project. Each shares a common goal—to conserve and restore ecosystems, habitats and species by improving ecological integrity, contributing to ecological sustainability and recovering species at risk. Specific examples include restoring forests and mitigating invasive species threats.

“Subaru is blazing the trail as the first corporate donor to Parks Canada’s Conservation and Restoration program,” said the Honourable Steven Guilbeault, Minister of Environment and Climate Change and Minister responsible for Parks Canada. “I want to thank them for their contribution and would point other potential partners to their example in supporting this great program, which is helping to protect treasured landscapes and wildlife across the country.”

“Parks Canada takes its role as a recognized leader in conservation very seriously and we take pride in all the conservation and restoration undertaken at national historic sites, national parks, and national marine conservation areas,” said Ron Hallman, President and CEO of Parks Canada. “This donation will contribute to Parks Canada’s important conservation efforts at treasured places from coast to coast to coast.”

“We are strong advocates for the responsible use of the natural environment in Canada, an outlook we have always shared with Parks Canada,” said Subaru Canada, Inc. Chairman, President, and CEO Tomohiro Kubota. “By contributing to this fund, we can help ensure that Subaru owners and Canadians alike will be able to continue to responsibly explore for generations.”

Take the Leave No Trace Canada pledge and play your own part in protecting Canada’s natural beauty, preserving it for generations to come.
