What do you recall from your most memorable drives? Being wowed by new technology that anticipates your next move? Being amazed by how intuitive the vehicle is?

There’s nothing quite like an extraordinary driving experience—it’s unforgettable and leaves you always wanting more.

The Subaru brand has always been known for its dedication to safety; for more than 50 years it has strived to secure the protection of all occupants at all times. Now it’s just as well known for the latest tech features and upgrades.

“Subaru as a company is passionate about safety and eco-friendly driving,” says Lynn Renaud, General Sales Manager at Palladino Subaru. “We are fortunate to have these models available to the Sudbury and area market.”

Subaru Global Platform

The three main objectives of the Subaru Global Platform include increasing straight-line stability, reducing noise and vibration, and boosting ride comfort. Considered advanced architecture, the platform features a 70-100% increase in structural rigidity, includes significant enhancements to the steering and suspension systems, and creates an even lower centre of gravity, which, for the driver, translates into even more responsive and sportier handling.

Drivers will enjoy a level of quietness that exceeds current best-in-class standards and reduced vibration felt through the steering wheel, floor and seats, as well as a more stable driving experience and greater accident avoidance capabilities.

The Subaru Boxer Engine

This particular type of engine offers three main advantages: sharper handling, smoother acceleration and better performance efficiency. It has significantly less vibration than a typical engine. Drivers find their vehicle is more responsive, safer and more stable; it offers quicker handling, flatter cornering and a more planted feel.

These engines are also available in naturally aspirated and turbocharged forms to fit a wide range of drivers and driving styles.

Subaru PZEV technology

PZEV stands for Partial Zero-Emission Vehicle and the Subaru PZEV is an affordable, eco-friendly alternative. While it runs on regular unleaded fuel, it offers significant smog-reducing environmental benefits. It also delivers performance that is equal to hybrids, diesels and alternative fuel vehicles.

Classified as the cleanest-running gasoline-powered car on the market, it was developed to meet California’s air quality standards, which are the strictest in North America. That means it must meet the Super Ultra Low Emissions Vehicle (SULEV) tailpipe standard and have zero evaporative emissions.

The DriverFocus® Distraction Mitigation System

This system represents another safety first from Subaru. Using a camera that is angled at the driver’s face and uses facial recognition software, it monitors fatigue or a lack of attention. It works together with Subaru EyeSight® Driver Assist Technology and is part of a state-of-the-art system that was initially developed to address traffic accidents caused by distraction or fatigue.

In essence, it’s like having another driver by your side. The camera focuses on your face, scanning for signs (in the form of eye and head movements) that indicate you may be distracted or falling asleep. If it detects anything, the system issues visual and auditory alerts to bring your attention back.

The system can also recognize up to five different drivers. Once a driver has entered the vehicle, the camera scans the individual’s face and adjusts the vehicle settings according to that person’s specific preferences, height and dimensions. A personalized welcome message appears on the Multi-Function Display and the seat position, side mirror position and climate control settings automatically adjust to suit the person in the driver’s seat.

DriverFocus® was named the Best Safety Innovation by the Automobile Journalists Association of Canada in 2019.

Subaru EyeSight® Driver Assist Technology

This advanced driver-assist system acts like a second pair of eyes; it watches out for you, warns you and can even help you avoid potential danger. The system uses up to three cameras to monitor activity on the road ahead, depending on the model and year of your vehicle.

It provides several types of preventative assistance, including:

  • Adaptive cruise control
  • Pre-collision braking
  • Pre-collision throttle management
  • Lane departure and sway warning

It can even help combat driver inattentiveness at stop lights by sending an alert once it has detected that the lead vehicle has moved a distance away.

Please note that this system is currently available only on Lineartronic® CVT, Subaru Performance Transmission® (SPT) and automatic transmission (AT) equipped models.

Subaru Rear/Side Vehicle Detection

The company’s goal is to help drivers avoid accidents, make roads more secure and move drivers towards full-perimeter preventive safety.

The next step in this process is the Subaru Rear/Side Vehicle Detection (SRVD) System. It offers three main functions: Blind-Spot Detection, Lane Change Assist and Rear Cross-Traffic Alert. Combined, these features greatly improve visibility and help minimize the most common causes of accidents.

These are just some of the amazing safety and tech features Subaru drivers have at their disposal when they’re on the road. They are beneficial for drivers of all ages—from beginners to the most experienced—and the technology is only getting better and better.
