An elderly Elliot Lake resident is looking to show her appreciation to a young man who recently helped her when she fell outside of her car on Oct. 23.

Jeanette Bonevant was trying to take some groceries out of her trunk that day when she lost her balance and fell down. A young man walking his dog saw the fall and came to her rescue.

"My husband was inside at the time because he had surgery recently and couldn't help me," she said. "I went to the store and when I went to get my bags out, I lost my balance and I fell. This young man saw me and came to my rescue."

Bonevant, 73, and her husband, Richard, 75, moved to the arena two years ago after their retirement from teaching in the Windsor area. Bonevant said her and her husband have been teachers for 45 years and did research on retirement communities and stumbled upon Elliot Lake and decided to move here.

"We haven't regretted this decision since moving here," she said. "We have no other family here but have made some incredible friends."

Bonevant said she didn't ask the young man's name and if it wasn't for him, "I wouldn't have been able to get up."

"I think I screamed when I fell," she said. "I hit my arm and the side of my face. I have a few scratches but it could have been a lot worse."

She also said while she was driving home, she saw the man walking his dog and thought to herself she would love to meet his dog.

"I see him walking his dog here and there and he's just the cutest little poodle," she expressed. "I'm very grateful for him to have been out that day at that time to see me and help me."

Bonevant said she would like to extend her thanks to the young man and wishes he would come forward so she can remember his name.

"Thank you for helping me when you did," she explained. "I could have been laying there for the longest time. You helped an old lady. Please know you have my deepest appreciation."
