A new report from the Fraser Institute alleges Ontario's rising electricity costs is a made-in-Ontario problem, caused by policy makers over the last decade.

The study's author claims the global adjustment policy is largely to blame.

"If we're paying about 12 cents per kilowatt hour, nine to 10 cents of that is actually the global adjustment," said Ross McKitrick, study author and economics professor at the University of Guelph.

McKitrick claims that Ontario's rising electricity costs have contributed to the loss of roughly 75,000 jobs in the province's manufacturing sector.

Between 2008 and 2016, Ontario's hydro rates have increased by 71 per cent, compared to the national average of 34 per cent during the same time frame.
