Friends of Layna Pollard's family have set up a GoFundMe page to help them pay for expenses.

Pollard is the 12-year-old Guelph girl who died Jan. 31 less than two days after showing flu symptoms.

She is one of two Guelph children who have died form the flu recently.

"We are Shelly Craig and Morgan Patterson mom and daughter. Morgan works with Le (mom of Layna). They are our friends and we understand their heartache and hardship. We would like to raise money to help them get through this horrible time," states the GoFundMe page.

"Layna had a zest for life. She loved to dance, write poetry, read and make movies with her dad Stan. She enjoyed camping, fishing and all of nature.
She was a social girl who loved talking to her friends and was honoured to be a best buddy to another student at her school Westminster Woods Public School."

The page said Layna's parents Stan and Le are going through emotional and financial hardship. Le works at Zehrs and Stan is currently on disability, it added.

"Money raised would go to funeral costs lost wages and their well being."

The GoFundMe page's goal is $10,000.
