Man and woman from Elliot Lake charged in child's death

Facing charges of causing death by criminal negligence, failing to provide the necessaries of life

A man and a woman are facing criminal charges in relation to the death of a child on Dec. 14 of last year at an Elliot Lake home.

An investigation was conducted with members of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) East Algoma Detachment, East Algoma (Elliot Lake) Crime Unit and Forensic Identification Services (FIS), under the direction of Detective Inspector Mark Zulinski of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB) and in assistance with the Office of the Chief Coroner.

As a result, a 34-year-old Elliot Lake woman was charged with causing death by criminal negligence and failing to provide the necessaries of life. 

A 38-year-old Elliot Lake man was also charged with failing to provide the necessaries of life.

Both appeared in Sault Ste. Marie bail court through video Nov. 2.
