North Bay motorcycle accident leads to online petition

Petition would see Tim Hortons limited to "exit only" on Lakeshore Drive

In the wake of a serious accident last Wednesday that has left a local family man hospitalized with serious injuries, a petition has been posted online demanding that the Tim Hortons at Lakeshore Drive and Marshall Avenue be accessible only by Marshall, making the driveway on Lakeshore Drive exit only.

The petition can be seen here

Laura Hayward, the creator of the  petition (which is addressed to North Bay City Council) explains the basis for the request to block entry to the Tim Hortons on the Lakeshore side in an online post:

"On Sept 14th, Brad Martin almost lost his life due to an accident on Lakeshore drive. There have been many accidents at this intersection due to people entering and exiting the Tim Hortons and Wendy's parking lot without paying attention. What I am suggesting with this petition is to make the entrance on Lakeshore an exit only in the hopes that it will help avoid accidents in this location. Let's try to keep North Bay safe!"

Charges were laid against the driver of a van who, while southbound on Lakeshore, turned in front of Martin, who was travelling northbound.

Martin had been placed in a medically-induced coma until recently. While doctors initially feared that he had suffered extensive brain damage, his family remains hopeful for more progress and an eventual recovery. Martin has been hospitalized in Sudbury since the accident occurred.

Brad and his brother Russell are well-known in the community for their generosity, especially when it comes to children's causes. Support for the Martins has reached remarkable levels, with a Gofundme campaign, and Tuesday night's benefit at The Fox & Fiddle.
