Emailing threats to North Bay cop gets man arrested

Last night (December 29)  at 10:15 p.m., OPP executed an arrest warrant at an apartment on Mountainview Drive in North Bay.after a series of threats against a police officer.

"During the month of December 2022, the police officer received correspondence from the person that was threatening, vulgar, and rude in nature and was meant to instill fear," said Detective Constable Neal Turner in a news release. "The officer had dealt with the person in a prior criminal harassment investigation where charges were laid."

The man had been previously released on bail with specific conditions that he did not adhere to.

Between December 14 - 22, 53 emails were sent to the officer. added Turner.

Joseph Neault, 54, of North Bay is charged with:

  • Criminal harassment
  • Uttering threats - cause death or bodily harm
  • Failing to comply with a release order

The OPP's North Bay crime unit, Tactics and Rescue Unit, Emergency Response Team, Community Street Crime Unit, and Regional Support Team conducted the investigation which resulted in the arrest of Neault.

Neault was scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice Bail Court in North Bay, said the OPP news release. .
