The weekend has arrived

This is the first issue of Northern Life's new weekend edition. We hope that you find it good reading and that you find the time over the next two or three days to get caught up on community news and information. We hope William J.

This is the first issue of Northern Life's new weekend edition. We hope that you find it good reading and that you find the time over the next two or three days to get caught up on community news and information.

We hope William J. Thomas will make you laugh and columnists such as Lionel Rudd, Jim Thompson and Eric Dowd will make you think.

In future Weekend Editions, we will be offering more opinions, more arts coverage, more lifestyle features, more photographs and more sports.

Readers will note the new TV listings section which includes a prime-time program grid as well as weekly movie highlights.

We've made a few cosmetic changes, and if we've done them right, readers won't notice. They may just find the newspaper better organized and easier to read.

The newsroom staff has been preparing for this new edition. It changes our deadlines and our routines. That's a good thing because we need to be challenged out of our comfort zones once in a while.

Northern Life reporters attended a "webinar" this week on finding story ideas in the dead of summer. It was offered by the Canadian Community Newspaper Association. But they don't need it. There are very few dull moments in this community where they have to go searching for stories to tell.

So sit back and enjoy the Weekend. For breaking news, visit NorthernLife.ca for news when you want it 24/7.
