If you’re near the water’s edge as spring is dawning, you might hear it singing. It sounds much better than his barking or his mom’s attempts to sing, Finn says.

I’ve learned “the sometimes eerie sounds that frozen waters can make are typically due to ice water shifting beneath the surface. These noises most often happen as a result of temperature changes”.

We’ve certainly had ice singing here on the French River’s edge, with all the temperature changes! Lol,  we love it. We’ve learned that ice singing is not ghosts … hehehe.

It is a very relaxing or zen sound, when you compare it to my mom’s singing or my barking. I haven’t yet had cause to howl , but when I do, I’ll tell you all about it.

With the ice singing and the sun shining, surely spring is already tickling our toes.

So, I was just wondering, especially the Northern Ontarians, have you ever heard the ice singing?

“I Was Just Wondering” is a Sunday feature on Sudbury.com from Finn, a Brussels griffon breed of dog, and his “mom”, Jaana Pirnes. Come back next week to see what Finn is up to. Got a question for Finn? You can email him at [email protected].
