The Rotary Club of Sudbury Sunrisers continue to be quite busy as the summer season approaches.

This is an exciting time. Sue Lekun, the current Sunrisers president, is set to step down as her term comes to an end. She will be replaced by Beau Frescura, our incoming president.

We would like to thank Sue for her dedication and service to our club. During her tenure, the club has made great strides forward in ensuring we meet our commitments, not only to Rotary International, but to our local community.

Sue has given countless hours of her time to ensure our club priorities, including membership, have been met.

On June 22, we will witness the induction of Lise Dutrisac as district governor. Lise is a member of the Rotary Club of Sudbury and everyone is excited such a dynamic person is taking on the role.

She will preside over the district conference, which is being hosted in Sudbury from Sept. 10 to Sept. 12. This will be an exciting weekend for all Rotarians and an excellent opportunity to showcase our wonderful city.

That conference is also an opportunity for everyone to get involved. We are anticipating upwards of 250 delegates and companions.

The club has sponsorship packages available in all shapes and sizesFor more detailed information, please contact Dawn Larsen at 705-918-2090. The co-chairs for this year’s conference are Liz Spooner-Young and Joanna Cox. More information will be coming out as the event draws nearer and everyone is invited to check out our website, RotarySunrisers.com, anytime for information.

Our major fundraiser for the Elgin Street Mission Fishing for Food is set to go June 18-20 at Ramakko’s Source for Adventure on Regent Street.

Fishing for Food is possible thanks to Ramakko’s, Legend Boats and KICX 91.7. We will be filling up Legend boats with food that will be donated to the Elgin Street Mission.

Pastor Rene and his staff use this food to feed the hungry and the homeless in our downtown. The weekend food fundraiser culminates June 20 with a super family day at Ramakko’s.

The Elgin Street Mission is in dire need of coffee at the moment. Gerry Lougheed Jr., our founding member, has started a campaign to collect it.

Everyone is encouraged to buy coffee and drop it off at a Lougheeds location for delivery to the mission. We are also happily accepting cash donations.

Get your tickets early for the Paul Harris Fellowship event June 25 at the Caruso Club, when we will honour Junior and Leslie Moutsatsos of Pat and Marios. Tickets are rapidly selling out.

The proceeds from what promises to be a great meeting will be donated to the Janice Foligno Foundation for cancer research. Tickets are still available through the Sunrisers or on our website.
