Columnist shares true meaning of Special Olympics oath - Cheryl Bruce

Hi everyone. Hope you are all ready to read what the SOO (Special Olympics Ontario) Oath really means to me and my friends.

Let me win — by accepting me the way I am.
Let me win — by giving me healthy choices and affordable safe housing to meet my needs.
Let me win — by having school programs from elementary to college, that direct me to a good paying job/career.
Let me win — by getting involved with the community and getting along with my everyday peers.
Let me win — by having sports involvement in team events to help build my self-esteem.
But if I cannot win — do not criticize me.
But if I cannot win — do not use the “R” word.
But if I cannot win — do not label me because I look or learn differently.
But if I cannot win — do not segregate or discriminate against me. Do not bully me, betray me or laugh at me.
Let me be brave in the attempt — to move forward out of poverty, allowing me to have a productive life.
Let me be brave in the attempt — to reach my potential, giving me my chance like everyone else.
Let me be brave in the attempt — to help people realize we are created equal, and, like you, I want and deserve my education, health care, housing, food, clothing and above all, a productive life.
