Rallying community support to help those in need - Lyse-Anne Papineau

In a time when we are all tempted to tighten our belts and save save save, it is imperative that we remember the people in our community who are using our funded programs for the first time this year.

In a time when we are all tempted to tighten our belts and save save save, it is imperative that we remember the people in our community who are using our funded programs for the first time this year. I ask you, what will happen when an individual in need of a United Way/Centraide funded program finds its doors closed? Where will he or she turn?

At last count, the number of programs that rely on the United Way campaign is staggering. From breakfast programs for our youth to services for our seniors, the United Way is currently funding more than 60 programs within our community. As we campaign, our volunteers are working tirelessly to deliver agency stories to workplaces both small and large. More than ever, we have engaged our funded programs to tell the tales that matter.

Our hope is that our slogan this year will capture the urgency of our campaign efforts. The slogan “It all matters” is our way to let everyone know that we all have a huge stake in this effort and we hope most will feel a responsibility as well. Our goal for this year is simple: more people donating. We truly believe every single donation matters regardless of the amount.

We truly believe every single donation matters, regardless of the amount.

In the coming weeks we will be sending out a slight reminder that the United Way is a very transparent, well structured organization that harnesses local energy for the greater good of all.

We have also joined forces with several youth groups to harness the amazing power of our future leaders. I would also encourage anyone to e-mail or call the United Way to get involved.

We are realistic about the challenges we are facing this year and yet, we are optimistic. We believe in the power of this community to rally around those in need and join hands to create a united effort.? Finally, we believe that, more than ever before, people will go home and sit around their dinner tables with their families and talk about the gift that they are prepared to make to United Way/Centraide.

Thank you for your support.
