Laugh Out Loud (LOL) Sudbury Comedy Festival will host its first ever Northern Ontario celebrity comedy competition, entitled "Don’t Quit Your Day Job: Northern Celeb Comedy Showdown" on March 15.
This will be one of five club shows presented at the Durham Social, 80 Durham Street in the heart of downtown Sudbury. Tickets for this event are $20.
"A select few of Northern Ontario’s bravest celebrities have decided to leave behind their 9-5’s for the LOL Sudbury stage and try their (shaking) hand at comedy!" said an LOL Sudbury news release.
Sudbury.com's own Matt Durnan is one of those celebrities (although he would dispute that moniker) hitting the stage. Durnan's charity of choice is Maison McCulloch Hospice.
Up to 12 regional celebrities will compete for a chance to bank $1,500 for the charity of their choice and to go down in history as Northern Ontario’s funniest celebrity.
The show will be hosted by Sudbury’s favourite dirty relative, Aunt Zelda and so far features the following celebrities (besides Durnan) and the charities they represent:
- Karen Bass – CTV Northern Ontario: The Lions Club of Azilda
- Maher Khalil — The Hourglass Restaurant: Canadian Diabetes Association
- Scott Edwards — KICX 91.7: Sudbury Therapeutic Riding Association
- Yvonne Davidson — Naughty Nana: The Heart and Stroke Foundation
- Marty Bourgeois — Studio 613 Electric Tattoo: Pet Save
- Sean Lamothe — L-ex Media and The Lamothe Experience: Easter Seals Sudbury
All LOL club shows will be at The Durham Social in Downtown Sudbury.
There are two Main Stage shows at Laurentian University’s Fraser Auditorium. Tickets are on sale now and can be purchased at LOLSudbury.com, at the Downtown Box Office, 40 Larch Street – Unit 103, and over the phone: 705-688-1234.
