I am writing to express my appreciation of
the efforts by the Whitefish Volunteer Fire Fighting
Service.
When my family and I returned home from
Science North on Canada Day, we were concerned when our family
dog failed to meet us in the driveway.
When she failed to show the next morning, we
searched the roads thinking she may have been hit by a
car.
Later that day, we received a call telling us
a dog had been discovered trapped between the transom and motor
on a pontoon boat at a residence two kilometres from our own
house.
When we arrived on the scene, all that was
visible the dog's hindquarters. The rest was under the boat
where she had spent the night unable to work herself free from
a spot we believe she sought out to escape the noise of
fireworks in the neighbourhood.
Neighbours, who discovered the dog after
hearing her whimpers, tried valiantly without success to free
her before calling in the services of the Whitefish Fire
Station. The firefighters who responded spent close to two
hours working patiently and professionally to free the animal
without causing any additional distress or injury.
I wanted to everyone know the men of the
Whitefish Station did their department proud. The level of
commitment and concern demonstrated should
make us all confident in their ability to
respond to future calls of any type.
