I heard city counsel is thinking about
eliminating fluoridated water to save $200,000.
I believe this is a bad idea because the
public's health will be jeopardized.
Fluoridation is a practical, safe and
cost-effective way to help prevent dental cavities in the
young.
Fluoride can effectively reduce tooth decay
by forming strong healthy teeth and acting on bacteria of
plaque.
Fluoridation helps Sudburians meet their
daily fluoride needs for maintaining healthy teeth. If the
council decides to remove fluoride from the water, where are
people going to get this mineral? Studies have shown that low
fluoride intake will increase the frequency of tooth
decay.
Increase tooth decay will lead to frequent
trips to the dentist. What happens if professional dental care
is not affordable? Some groups, particularly the low-income
group with no dental coverage, will be at a disadvantage.
