Major road construction on Regent Street plus three traffic calming speed bump mats on Southview Drive East — what were city staff and council thinking?

Have they driven down Regent Street since April 28? Have they asked the owners of businesses along Regent and the little strip malls how their customers, tourists (if they have had any) and revenues have been and will continue to be impacted until the city decides to end this year’s construction along Regent Street?

Since April 28, I only drive along Regent Street to get to my hairdresser.

I was almost t-boned this afternoon by an impatient driver (in the wrong lane) who pulled in front of me just as I turned my truck into the strip mall near the Red Rooster.

Will it be safe, quick and easy to drive along Regent Street before the snow falls?

Let’s talk about the city’s traffic calming policy along Southview Drive East, which began in 2009 by eliminating wide, straight stretches along Southview, and in 2014 has morphed into three yellow and black traffic calming speed bump mats set up in one block, plus the four-way stop at Marcel and Southview.

Do they really believe the three speed bump mats located in one city block will result in traffic calming for anyone? I don’t think so.

What if you are a first responder driving to an emergency or a patient riding in an ambulance? What if you’re driving a snowplough?

How many different city traffic calming policy experiments will be tried on this one section of Southview Drive? What a waste of taxpayer dollars.
