I'm all for the less garbage, more
recycling campaign that our city is trying so hard to impose on
us. However, if you want people to recycle more, the city will
have to expand on the types of recyclable plastics
allowable.
For example, those flimsy plastic containers
that hold our favourite grocery store cookies are type 6. Since
we are unable to process them here in Sudbury, they must go in
the trash. What about type 3 shampoo bottles? Again, they have
to be trashed. Jumbo-sized allowable plastics take up a lot of
garbage space.
I'm sure everyone remembers when
businesses started charging tire taxes. People who refuse to
pay this tax simply discard old tires wherever they see
fit.
You can't even walk on a nature trail
without seeing old tires polluting our forests and
waterways.
Will our garbage suffer the same fate? I
certainly hope not.
