I have worked with many committees and
organizations over the last 10 years, but never have I been
part of a team as energetic and determined as the Dow Pool
Lifesavers.
Over the past 18 months the Lifesavers have
undertaken the daunting task of designing a strategy to reopen
the pool in Copper Cliff that would reverse
the city's views on the necessity and
viability of the facility.
The end result of the many presentations and
discussions we have had with council and city staff now means
the Dow Pool will reopen in late summer.
A unique partnership between the city and our
group has been forged.
The community group will continue to promote
the recreational facility, undertake a capital fundraising
program, seek out other community partnerships and provide
volunteers support at the pool site.
Over the next couple of months, while many
are enjoying their summer holidays, the Dow Pool Lifesavers
will be dedicating much time on preparing for the reopening of
the pool.
The community of Greater Sudbury will be
asked to back our efforts through various support
avenues.
I encourage the citizenry and business
leaders to appreciate the incredible accomplishment of
reversing a city budgetary decision and to back the Dow
Pool Lifesavers' effort in any way they
can.
