Seniors group suggests alternate branding

The newly suggested “resourceful city” brand, while somewhat clever with multifaceted intent, did not engender much enthusiasm among our city councillors and the public in general.

They are concerned about the amount of money — some $70,000 — and the time — apparently several months — to come up with the slogan by staff and consultants.

Some have recommended reconsidering the frequently used “City of Lakes” identifier, which conveys a more attractive and representative image, but is not particularly exciting or memorable, however positive or factual it may be.

We would suggest the more “catchy” and succinct “Lake City Canada” moniker including “Greater/Grand Sudbury,” as shown in the attached illustration developed for use by some lake stewardship groups.

Another idea to enhance our image and promote our “nature,” both personal and ecological, would be “Friendly Sudbury.”

The attached illustration developed by Friendly to Seniors – Sudbury uses our city colours plus blue to represent our lakes and the sub message “clean and green” — definitely positive factors as a city we want to project.

It is suggested that the public be invited to consider all branding options in a manner to be determined by council.
