I am a member of the Committee to Free
Flamborough. We are a citizen's group in Flamborough, a town
forced into amalgamation with Hamilton despite the wishes of 97
per cent of the voters.
We were an efficient, happy community with a
balanced budget and minimal tax increases for the prior six
years. With amalgamation the government guaranteed (in writing)
better services, lower taxes and a more efficient government.
Now, four years later, our services have diminished and our
realty taxes increased between 40 and 60 per cent.
We are organizing an Ontario conference in
early summer of towns/cities that are in a similar
situation.
