As a result of an advertisement in the
newspaper, I went to Sudbury Junction to purchase train tickets
to Vancouver. Have you travelled to that station lately?
The road is not in bad shape now that the
snow has covered in most of the potholes, but the view is
something to behold!
While there, I obtained a rail timetable. As
a note beside Sudbury I see the following, "Sudbury Jct., ON 10
km from Sudbury ON (no shuttle service)."
Last summer while my daughter was picking up
bus tickets for the local Sudbury transit bus service at the
downtown bus station, she overheard two travellers asking the
sales lady how to get to the rail station. Not only did the
sales lady not know where the station was, she had no idea how
the two
travellers could get there after she learned
where the train station was located.
If a traveller wished to go from Sudbury
Junction to catch the Bud Car at the Elgin Street train
station, a taxi would be the main means of transport. But
if a tourist wished to transfer from
Greyhound or Northland buses to one of these two train
stations, does the existing local bus service make it
easy?
If we wish to revitalize the Elm Street
downtown area would it not be advisable to have the Greyhound
bus terminal adjacent to the Elm Street bus terminal?
Does a tourist arriving by highway bus have
an easy access to the local bus service?

to blame. The businesses involved have demonstrated they do
not care to invest to make Sudbury tourist friendly.
