This letter is in regard to the Internet rumor regarding the Swiffer Wet Jet.

We have been receiving many calls and e-mails from concerned clients worried this product can be toxic to their dogs. The letter being forwarded from the Internet says the Swiffer has a product related to antifreeze that causes liver failure.

Ethylene glycol (antifreeze) causes renal failure, and it is very different from the product in the Swiffer (propylene glycol).

The ingredients in the Swiffer system are safe to use around pets when used according to label directions. The ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center has also investigated the Internet claim and found it to be false.

False warnings can be propagated at amazing speed on the Internet, generating unnecessary fears. It is a good idea to confirm all things like this before sending them along to the people in your address book. Your veterinarian is well-trained with regard to health concerns for your pet. Check with him or her before acting on any advice received from the Internet or otherwise.
