September means the start of fall fairs on weekends across Ontario.

This Saturday, Sept. 12, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. is fair time at the Anderson Farm in Lively.

“Plan to bring the whole family. It’s bigger and better this year,” said Gwen Doyle, publicity chair.

Events and displays revolve around food, entertainment and farm related demonstrations. There will be a barbecue from 11 a.m. until all the food is gone. Almost 30 arts, crafts vendors and displays will be present. At 11 a.m. there also will be the official opening of the Walden 25 Year Time Capsule by Jim Fortin, curator of the Anderson Farm Museum and Mayor Rodriguez in the loft of the barn. Walden residents who contributed items to the capsule will also be present.

Outdoor activities on site include an antique vehicle display, museum tours, giant pumpkin contest, Walden Lions fish pond, farm animals, Snowy Acres miniature horses and Wagon Wheel Ranch wagon rides.

“There will be barrel horse riding all day. That will be exciting,” said Doyle.

She also said miniature horses will pull tiny wagons for the tots. Draft horses will pull much larger wagons for adults and families.

Copper Cliff Dairy will provide free chocolate milk for children. Eat Local Sudbury will demonstrate the availability of local food. One vendor will have candy apples for those with a sweet tooth, she added.

There is no parking on the site.

“Park off site and walk in to the fair grounds,” said Doyle.

She said more volunteers would be useful for crowd control and various tasks. Phone Mary Barr at 586-2611.
