Call it a northern Ontario Idol on tap. A collection of northern Ontario artists performed at the Townehouse Tavern in Sudbury a few weeks ago to audition for the last spots at this year's Northern Lights Festival Boréal (NLFB).

The tavern hosted the group auditions, while the new festival office, located at 19 Grey St., Suite 3, hosted the acoustic artists. Of the many musicians who participated, only three were chosen for the NLFB according to a news release.

From Blind River, the three-piece pop group, An Offhand Rebellion, topped the scorecards for musicianship and creativity. The group's 20-minute set showcased two lead female vocalists with intertwining harmonies and excellent instrumentation.

From Sudbury, the four-piece group Hello Marx showed great musicianship and strong songwriting and earned a spot at the annual festival. The members, who are all in their teens, have been turning many heads in the underground music scene this year.

From Barrie, Three Penny Opus, featuring Sudburian Vincent Therrien, showcased great roots and bluegrass songwriting and harmonies to be picked for the festival.

The selection of festival musicians is complete.

This year's Northern lights Festival Boréal will be held from July 4 to 6. Organizers are finalizing the visual and performance artists, vendors, crafters and food sellers. The announcements for the main festival performers and ticket sales locations and dates will be announced in the future.
